Bloober Team up is annoying a new Layers of Fear

Horror developer Bloober Team is teasing a return to Layers of Fear, with a new trailer harkening back to the original 2016 game's tortured catamount.

The new trailer, a close vignette rendered in Unreal Engine 5, briefly shows us an creative person struggling to put light touch to paper. As a creative, I can empathise with how scary a incommunicative canvas can live, but it seems like at that place are more supernatural shenanigans underway hither. Between ghostly voices ushering you to go back and "finish what you started", it sounds like this leave be a more direct sequel to the foremost Layers of Dread, which followed a once-famous artist struggling to complete their magnum opus.

The first Layers of Fear was totally fine, but James felt it completely pinched the potential in its set-up by opting for a more received, jumpscare-laden horror adventure. A return to that could be underwhelming, even if information technology's flaunting fabulous paint-stirring tech.

"It's a videogame play the crazy artists' Purple Dissolution of Realism, but I predicted more than nicety in a scourge so psychologically driven," helium wrote in his Layers of Fear review articl. "Layers of Fear skirted right by the potentiality of its premise and hit Pine Tree State over the head with dozens of spooky baby dolls. It's a creative, excessive inhabited house without almost no sense of tension framed away a curious, but unsurprising narrative."

A sequel would largely echo these problems, though Bloober Team up has more lately tested to stretch its horror legs with The Medium—a unfit commentator Leana Hafer found a wondrous throwback to fixed-tv camera horror.

Layers of Fear ISN't the only if thing Bloober is working on, mind. Polish outlet Bankier reports the studio is currently working on an unknown project with Private Division (via Eurogamer), and while Bloober insists it's non working on a Silent Hill project, fans still reckon the horror studio apartment's "strategic co-operation agreement" with Konami mightiness mean a return to the long-dormant franchise.

Embedded in the European indie scene and having herself developed critically acclaimed small games like Fire Androids Pray, Nat is ever looking for a original curiosity to scream about—whether it's the next go-to-meeting indie darling, or merely someone modding a Scotmid into Black Mesa. She's also played for a competitive Splatoon team, and unofficially appears in Apex Legends under the pseudonym Apparent horizon.
